Question:

How can I get a contract for a store to sell my products?

I am a new designer and have an overseas factory to make my clothing, however I'm finding it very difficult to get my products on the shelves of stores. Does anyone here have any experience or advice for me? Should I just try the online thing and produce/ship my merchandise from overseas rather than import and sell by bulk? I am just starting out and have very little experience with this sort of thing. Ive already tried to put items on ebay but its already so flooded with designer clothing that it makes my designs virtually invisible. I have also looked at the larger retail chains and notice that for them to deal business with a company, they must for some reason have between 10,000 and 150,000 dollars in business assets just to put things in their stores!

Thank you in advance for your words of wisdom!

  1. Maybe try making your things be inexpensive. I really have no idea.  It's almost like you're going to have to kiss some A or something.

  2. Where's your marketing material. Do you have a site and if so can we see it put your link up. If you don't have strong marketing material how do you expect it to work, many people fail because they don't know a thing about it. You have to separate yourself.

  3. Are there trade shows in your industry?  Where store owners go to purchase for their store?  Can you place an ad in a trade magazine?
