  1. there are a couple of ways you could start building credit, you could get a small personal loan which you might need a cosigner or the best way will be getting a credit cards, you could get a credit card and use it for your every day expenses but make sure you pay in full at the end of the month that way it will show pay in full everytime the credit card company reports to the credit beuros. At the begining you will only be approved for the lower end credit cards but once you build credit in about 6-9 months you should be able to apply for a better card with better benefits such as free miles or cash back. Check out www.fastcardapprovals.com or fastcreditcardapprovals.com and go under bad credit section and you will find a few choices. Unless you are a student then apply for a student credit card this cards have no annual fee and lower rates.

  2. You got denied because you have BAD credit.

Your problem now is to repair your credit before getting a credit card.

    DUH!

  3. Ok - you're not in the position to pick and choose because you obviously have less than stellar credit (the denials).

What you can do is start with a secured credit card. You can pretty much get them anywhere but one option is Capital One. Go to www.capitaone.com/ca and click on the secured card option.....basically they'll give you a limit of up to $750 with the same $1 for $1 amount in secured funds (which you'll give to them).

Thing is not using your card won't really help your score. If you just let it sit there you're not proving anything. You have to use it for small amounts (<10% of card limit) and prove that you can pay it back in FULL and on TIME. That's how you establish a positive re-payment history. After about a year or 2 you should be able to get an unsecured card.

In the meantime there must be some reasons why you're credit is so poor. Order your credit report(s) from the 3 credit bureaus ...Equifax...Experian and Transunion. Go over them for any erroneous info.....if there's old debts > 7 yrs get them taken off via dispute letter to the credit bureau....if you have outstanding debts...get them paid off totally or at least bring them current.

  4. Well, for starters, you need to nix that mentality about thinking that you're "going to let it sit and allow my Credit Score go up". It doesn't work that way. I should know because I work for a credit card company.

I also have a pretty good understanding why you're not able to get a credit card too. With the way the credit industry has taken an absolute beating over the past year, it's not as lickety split easy to get credit cards as they used to be. I mean, they're easier to get than the regular ones, but credit card companies are starting to monitor who they issue out credit to a little closer. Another thing that you should understand is that you should pay attention to where apply and how many times that you apply for credit, because regardless if you get approved or not, your score is reduced 3-10 points when you formally apply and your credit is reviewed. My advice would be to stop applying everywhere. Another suggestion would be to open a checking and a savings account somewhere if you haven't already, that way it makes the other products that the bank offers more accessible to you, such as credit cards. A lot of the major banks such as Citi, Chase, Bank of America offer student credit cards. But some also offer secured credit cards, which are the easiest credit cards to get because they require a deposit that's used as collateral to establish a matching credit line. For example, if you deposit $300, then your limit is $300, and so on. The more you depost, the higher the limit, the better your score will be in the future. Also, as long as the account is kept in good standing, the deposit is given back at some point later on.

The best way to use it would be to make a SMALL purchase no more than $20 and pay it off in full, on time, every month. Not using it isn't going to help your score go up. You have to have some kind of activity in order for it to report and build credit. Usually after a year, the deposit is given back, and you get a regular card.

I'm sorry that I had to get a little rough at first, but the only way you'll understand is if someone gives you "the real", and that's exactly what I'm doing.

I thank you for reading, and good luck!

  5. Your credit score wouldn't go up anyhow for having a credit card and not using it.  You have to show that you are an able and responsible payer for the score to go up.  You would have to make small purchases and pay them back - that is what increases a credit score, as well as job, a mortgage, and a jillion other things.

  6. you can apply for this credit card, http://www.idbaru.com/creditcard . its made for people like you who have no credit history or bad credit.

  7. well, first of all, if you going to let it sit in Ur home the credit score is not going to go up.

if you want Ur score to go up, always pay the most, half of what you owe. so for example if you owe 200 bucks, pay 100. that how you build Ur credit. that is what my banker told me. CuZ i was paying my credit right away, before they payment due even came up! and still my credit is 0, because i was paying of everything right away.

You should get a credit card for students!

it is called student credit card, and you'll get it for sure! i have one... :) it's a regular credit card.

  8. The problem is you either have a low credit score, or no credit history.  Since you are a college student, Bank of America has a credit card for college students, so look into that.  You may or may not have to pay a fee to obtain the credit card.  That is what I had to do to get my first credit card because I had no credit history.  And you CANNOT build credit by having a credit card and not using it.  My advise is using it once a month and paying it off completely before pay period deadline.  It will show you the credit bureau's that you are responsible with your credit and can afford it.

  9. this site has a bunch of cards you could apply for. Just take a look at the catagories and find out which one is best for you.  There's even a link for GUARANTEED APPROVAL and another for BAD CREDIT.  hope it helps.

  10. Try to build credit without credit cards.

Just take credit and pay it in time, and your credit score will be set. To avoid common mistakes while buiding credit, I recommend this one - http://creditreport.undonet.com - to monitor changes in you score and pre-estimate future scores for different scenarios of payments.
