in an Instructional Assistant capacity? I have a degree in English Literature. Most of my past work experience, however, in is restaurant marketing and management.

Go to your local Bd. of Ed. and ask them what you need to do to apply.

Apply for a job when it comes open.  In my district here is the process.  Apply, interview, take a test (extremely easy), you're hired, fbi and doj background tests, drug test, start working.
