  1. Many convicted felons find jobs. The main problem comes if it is for theft. Even a misdemeanor theft conviction can get you turned down by employers. I have worked at places that would hire a murderer before a thief. If the company needs to bond an employee, this is impossible.

  2. You can start by having a positive attitude while looking for work and apply for as many jobs you are qualified for.  All companies does not do background checks immediately. the more jobs that you apply for, the better your chances are.  And if you have the skills and qualifications that employers are looking for;they may want to at least get you to the interview process.  Try to avoid giving information about your felony charges on your application; just leave this area blank.  If the company is really strict about not hiring felons, they will run a background check by your social or name when they receive your application; especially electronic applications. I discovered this when I did an electronic application for an employer and they told me that the system was showing them that I had a felony charge on my record before I had ever made it to the interview.  I just simply told them that maybe it was someone with the same name.  I did get to interview and will soon find out what happens after the so call real back ground check. Another great thing that you can do is go to all your local temp or employment agencies becuase some do offer temp to hire jobs eventhough you do have a felony on your record.  Just explain to them about your situation and some will still try to find you work. If they do find you work, then you will have a chance to prove your work skills to the employer. And if they like you and your job performance; they may hire you eventhough you do have a felony charge on your record. Also check your charges and find out if the charges were under adjudication withheld.  If so, you can have your record cleared or expunged.

  3. It is hard but you can do it. I know that most walmart hire felons. My husband has a felony as well and it has been a struggle. The minute they see the felony checked on an application, they never call you.

Well I told my husband to leave that question (have you ever been convicted of a felony?) blank. It worked he got a couple interviews and while in the interview explained the situation. It made him look better for telling them straight up, and it got him a good job at a place that usually does not hire felons.

Keep your nose clean, in 2 years you can hire a lawyer and get it off your record. Good luck to ya.

  4. Depending on the jurisdiction where you live, you may be able to go back before a judge and have your record expunged or sealed. This will keep potential employers from seeing your record. I would suggest you consult with an attorney from your area.

I recently read that 1 in every 142 American adults has a criminal record. So, you're not alone. I have found from my experience that the rules for hiring  convicted felons vary greatly from company to company.

  5. It all depends on the felony.  If it is felony child abuse, then don't expect to be getting a job at a daycare any time soon.  Lots of employers are willing to give people a second chance.  Be prepared to talk about what happened and what you learned from it.

  6. It is difficult.  Many employers will simply refuse to hire a felon.  I have quite a few friends who have done well, but they had to start over, at an entry level job, and then prove themselves over time.  Others have gone the self-employment route.  One friend started out cleaning houses for folks.  She always disclosed her history and some people refused to hire her but some didn't.  Over time, she expanded and now owns a large cleaning company and is making tons of dough as others do the cleaning.  She will hire a felon sometimes, but will closely look at other indicia of character.  For instance, if it is a drug charge, she knows enough about rehab to know if someone has done what they need to do.

  7. Construction jobs will hire you.
