How can I get a picture of my choice to go in the ''avatar box'' that everyone sees?

I've seen a lot of people use a unique display of their choice, and I think I have to have it as my yahoo 360 picture, or something, but I don't that kind of yahoo account and I don't want one. Does anyone know how to acheive what I want?

go to your profile and hit edit my info then click Use my Yahoo! 360 Picture ...then click the yahoo 360 thingie..add a picha and set it as your main default..
