Question:

How can I get a position at this company

There is a company I want to work for (a very prominent company). I have looked around the web, and they don't seem to be hiring. However, I have a specific goal in mind for a position there.

What is the best way to get my foot in the door? Just show up there, ask about hring - apply as janitor or something and work my way up? I'd rather not do that.

Should I just contact the person whom I wish to work for directly? (He probably gets tons of those types of requests, and I imagine he files them in the "crackpot" folder).

I have been researching the company and learning all I can about it.

What are some other suggestions?

  1. If you can get into their HR, and sit & wait to talk with someone.. then try it. HR simply doesn't HAVE to look at resumes, and you know that NO ONE READS anymore.. even newspapers, beyond work. HR as most office workers, only do what they "have to do". No one cares, if you get in there or not... but, you. (is what I'm saying)

Also, in the real world many jobs are filled by people that live near or know/related to people already in the Company. I hate that, but I've seen it everywhere. If say, a woman lives in Madison, NJ and is in HR, etc. you'd be AMAZED at how many people from that area or NJ (through relations, etc.) will pop-up throught each dept. when positions are vacated. And for the rest of us? we're just paper or emailed resumes sitting in someone's in-box... just used for numbers of respondents vs. actual people either brought in, or on the fast-track for the employment.

So, get there. And politely schedule a time for a meeting. Do your best. and GL.
