How can I get a record of birth from 1822 from Lower Canada?

According to his discharge papers from the British Army, my great- great-grandfather (McAuliffe) was apparently born in the Parish of Québec, in or near the town of Québec in the Province of Lower Canada in 1822. Is there any way for me to obtain a record of his birth? If so, how do I go about doing so?

  1. I found this one at www.ancestry.ca:

Quebec Vital and Church Records (Drouin Collection), 1621-1967

    Name: John McAuliff

    Event Year: 1821

    Event: Naissance  (Birth)

    Religion: Catholique  (Catholic)

Place of Worship or Institution: Quebec (Notre-Dame)

    Province: Quebec

(If you had put in his first name, it would have been a LOT easier)

  2. Until 1968 church registers in Quebec served as civil and vital records.  Birth, marriage and death records can be found through the Drouin Collection, 1621-1967

    Is this him?

    John Mcauliffe

    Birth 1823

Place of Worship or Institution:   Montréal (Basilique Notre-Dame)

    Religion:  Catholique

  3. You might not be able to find one in 1822 as it wasn't common to have a certificate of birth back them.
