How can I get a refund on a non-refundable airfare?

Question

I've been waiting to book my flight at the last minute and finally did by a ticket on Jet Blue. One day later, United has a ticket for $56.00 less than what I paid!!! Yikes!! What can I do???

PS: I leave this Thursday, July 3, so quick answers will be greatly appreaciated.

You can't do anything.  Sorry.  Non-refundable means non-refundable.

You can't get your money back, hence the term "non-refundable."  However, you can cancel the ticket for a flight credit, but will have to pay a rebooking fee of about $100.  

Just take Jet Blue.  The $56 extra will be worth it for the better customer service and on-time performance.

Jet blue;one free check-in allowed,leather seats with TV but you can bring your own headphone for no rental fee,more leg room etc.

United Air: short leg room no leather seats with TV,no free check-in.I purchased Jet Blue tickets even though more expensive than United.

Nope but you maybe able to get a ticket on another flight sometime in life. If i were you i would call Jet Blue and explain your situation to them and they should give you a ticket anywhere with the same value as that one. So you have a ticket on Jet Blue somewhere. But you are just better off flying jet blue and then there will be no hassle

You might can get a refund if you get "oversold". All airlines do this to varying degrees. If they are thinking they won't have enough seats they will be asking for volunteers. If you volunteer you will get a travel certificate good for another flight. If you are oversold without volunteering you would then get a refund. in cash.

Once you buy a nonrefundable ticket you are stuck with it usually.

Non-refundable.... you cannot get your money back.

You can rebook your flight to someplace else with most airlines but they will not give you your $$ back. No way, no how.
