Question:

How can I get a satellite signal after moving my dishnetwork receiver?

When I had my dishnetwork service started I had them connect the DVR receiver in the basement. I just purchased a plasma tv and would like to move the receiver to my TV2 location, however this location isn't directly connected to the satellite so I cannot get a signal. Is there an easy way of going around this without paying them the $99 required to come out and do it? My thoughts were that I would take the line from the satellite and splice it so that I can take it through the wall on the first floor and just put in another wall outlet. I know this would probably allow a signal in that room, but would it properly split the signal so that TV2 would go to the original TV1 outlet through that same cable? Thanks in advance.

  1. You need a special satellite splitter called a multiswitch.

Here is one that allows 4 receivers for less than $10.00.

Run the cable from the satellite into the input of the switch. Then run the outputs to any room(s) you want and put on the receiver for that room.

  2. Either I'm confused or you are.  Moving a receiver does nothing to the alignment with the satellite.   Moving the dish on the roof does.

You don't have to splice a line.  Get a splitter from Radio shack and another line, then do your changes.
