I have the chainsaw taken apart to the part that rotates, and I want to keep the clutch so I can Idle. I don't have a welder, so how could I get the sprocket onto the rotating disc surrounding the clutch? BTW, im making a moped if you didn't guess.

  1. i guessed you was a making moped ,you have to weld the sprocket to it,we have done this before and it works really well ,but the sprocket will have to be welded,no other way around this problem, good luck.

  2. a chainsaw already uses a sprocket to drive the chain carrying the cutting link teeth.  But to try to help, I saw a homebrew design that just let the saw shaft move down against the top of the rear tire using a hinged mouting bracket. Shaft rotation dictates which side the motor and mount plate ride on.To idle, raise the mount plate holding the motor away from the tire. no welding, except perhaps to fabricate the chainsaw mount plate (was aluminum angle stock)
