The boat has been on my property for over 4 years and I can no longer get in contact with this person. I have worked on this boat and got it in working order. Can I file a mechanic's lien on a watercraft if i'm not a licensed mechanic? All I want is to be able to title and put TX numbers on this boat for my use. Please help, thanks!

  1. You cannot apply a mechanics lean in Texas unless you have a contract or signed agreement with the owner to perform the work.

You stand a better chance of getting title by processing storage charges but that may also require a signed agreement.

You may have to go to court but start by asking the police.  You may possibly begin by putting a notice of removal on it stating it must be removed within thirty days with the payment of storage charges.  That wold at least establish a legal start date.

    Good Luck!!

  2. you maybe able to get a salvage title for abandoned vehicles, but your local secretary of state will know for sure

  3. go to the DMV and get a LEIN SALE form, if the owner of the boat doesn't pick it up in 30 days it's yours, and if they do pick it up, you can charge them storage fees.
