Question:

How can I get a volunteer/internship job at a local newspaper company?

There are plenty of newspaper companies in my city and I am very interested in Journalism (I intend on majoring in Journalism, Mass Communications, or Broadcasting, I'm a staff writer on the school paper, I've taken tons of classes) and really want to see the career first-hand. I don't want to get paid, I just want the experience and maybe connections for the future. How can I go about and get that job? Who do I need to contact? I've checked the websites and there is nothing on there about internship/volunteer opportunities. So what can I do?

Thanks in advance!

  1. Send your resume to the papers in your area, and stress the "Volunteer" aspect.

Free is good, and they like free.
