How can I get an Irish passport?

Just some quick details

-Yes, I am an Irish citizen, but I live in the USA currently.

-I want the passport to visit countries I normally couldn't (aka not getting kidnapped, tortured, or killed because I'm an American)

- Is there a way to do it online? Though I don't mind driving to Boston to the Irish embassy either.

Any help or details on how to obtain one would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

best idea is to go to the embassy itself, but check this site first off http://www.irelandemb.org/  i'm guessing you HAD an irish passport, but need to renew it!? don't bother trying to do anything until you contact the embassy. look them up in a phone book if you can't get to the building itself. good luck, and safe journey
