Question:

How can I get better at directions?

I know that some people have a great sense of direction while driving, well I'm the opposite. I get lost extremely easily and always struggle to know which lane to be in or where to turn.

I usually drive to and from the same places near my house so this isn't much of a problem. However, lately I've started dating a girl who lives far from my house. I'm getting really frustrated having to constantly have her tell me which lane to be in and where to turn.

I can usually find my way if I have a gps or I have written directions ahead of time, but if its the 2 of us and we're talking with music playing there's no way I can navigate or even remember how to get back there later.

Does anyone have any tips to help me develop a a basic sense of direction?

  1. I would be so scared to be in the car with you. We'd be on the way to my house and then suddenly you'd take a wrong turn and I'd wonder where you were taking me. Then I'd remember that duct tape and ax I saw in your trunk and probably punch you in the face.

Don't worry though- my punches feel like cuddles.

  2. look for landmarks or things near the turns and lane change that can easily make you remember until you become used to the road. I am also bad at directions.

An since you said it gets worse when you are distracted then maybe you could reduce the distractions for now until you become comfortable with finding your way. It is safer for both of you.

  3. Road signs my man, or maybe look for a shop or some kind of business near her location.
