I am just going into the 8th grade now and I've been wanting to be on the volleyball team for a long time now. I have tried out for the team last year but, I didn't make it. I think I am pretty good at it but, I want to be good enough to be on a team. What should I do to get better? And if you wanted to be better what would you do?

  1. Well when I was in Middle School I played all three years 6th 7th and 8th and to get better seriously you ahve to practice!! Practice Bumpign Setting and Hitting...LOTS OF DRILLS!!

Practice with others too it helps but the alone time is great.

    Good Luck!!

  2. practice...simple as that. (:

and always have a good attitude at tryouts.

  3. all u hav 2 do is practice! try 2 get sum1 who has had experience playin vball who can help u. wen u go 2 tryouts just do ur best and show the coach ur willing 2 give 100% effort. practice makes perfect!! good luck!!

  4. There are lots of different camps out there that you can go to.

I'm going to one in Long Beach Califorina that Long Beach state sets up, and it has got to be the best camp I've ever been to and I've been playing since I was three.

Um... otherwise you can get a volleyball of your own, and then go to like wal-mart and buy a volleyball training dvd and do what they tell you to.

But I would really consider if you can, going to the Long Beach camp. it is the 19th of July this year.

  5. just practice

  6. Just because you didn't make the team, don't let this discourage you in not trying the next year. Just pracitice , practice, practice! Try practicing in a group or with friends!

Also you could also trying looking into volleyball camps:)

  7. Practicing is very important, but if you practice the wrong way, youll never get better. Ask someone you know that plays volleyball well to help you work on you bumping and setting, spiking the ball should be the least of your conserns as you work on volleyball for the first time.

Bumping (passing)= make sure that you do not lock ur fingers together, create a fist with one hand and cover it with your other hand, keeping ur thumbs on top and next to each other. extend your arms straight out and shrug your shoulders keep your arms parallel with the ground and keep your knees bent. dont swing your arms, extend your legs as the ball comes in.

Setting= keeping your hands above your head and creating a diamond with your index fingers and thumbs. keep your elbows bent and push up and out with your forearms and extend your elbows.

Serving: For 8th grade I dont think an Overhead Serve is neccisary, but you should still work on it so that if you continue to play the addicting sport of volleyball youll have a serve that is impossible to recieve.

Practice these skills and youll be an amazing volleyball player. also, work on your vertical jump, this will make you a great blocker and amazing hitter. Good Luck!!!

  8. practice running a lot. practice bunting, setting and spiking the ball.

    hope this helps!

  9. Practice Practice Practice!!!! The only way that you will ever get better at volley-ball is by practicing.PRACTICE  IS THE ONLY WAY TO GET BETTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

  10. If you want to get better at volleyball just remember to practice and try to get into a couple volleyball camps that's usually a good way to get one-on-one pratice with someone that knows what they are doing. Also really work on your serve that is a really good way to have a chance of getting on the team.

  11. Try and find a club team and play with better players...go to camp.....they is no subsitute for practing hard. Find a place where you can play everyday.  YMCA, Local boys club, Club team in your area....even if your not good enough for a club team ask the coach to let you practice with the team. tell him your story...some coaches will  let you workout with  the team. It will help you out alot.

  12. defintetly practice with somebody who knows what they're doing--you dont want to pick up any bad habits. for bumps, make sure you control them and use your knees and legs NOT YOUR ARMS. for sets, make sure to fully push out and that your fingers are slightly round. if you wrap your hands around your waist, then hold your hands in that position as you put them above your head, thats how your hands should be. defintely work on yuor overhead serves-they really like that. also, make sure to be positive and eager to learn--coaches hate nothing more than somebody who acts like a know-it-all or doesn't try their hardest.

and remember--the most important part of volleyball is reading! reading the situation and figuring out what kind of pass you need to do.
