I'm 14, and i'm currently in year nine going to year ten next month.... my teacher said I could get an A* in year 11 for my gcses. I want to do an English degree in Univeristy, so I really want the best grade possible. How do I get better in English? Any tips?

  1. the 3 golden rules to language - read it, speak it, listen to it. so read atleast a book a week. it can be a romance or even archie comics, but read! dont be afraid to speak english. if u make a mistake, someone will correct you. and you will learn. watch a lot of english movies and TV programmes. it will help you get used to the different accents, and also help you learn contemporary lingo.

  2. Read a lot of medium to hard books to understand the language first. Then, maybe, start listening to a lot of music or watch a good amount of TV to learnpronunciationn and the speed of how most English people talk.

  3. Hi,

So in order to get better in English here are some of the tips to consider first:

    - Learn to be confident.

    - Take your time to understand words in English and their meaning.

    - Ask where you don't understand.

    - Make daily practices by reading novels or other English books.

    - Listen well to your teacher and understand, ask where necessary.

  4. I have just finished my gcses. I would say that background research is quite important, as you need a lot of detail in essays. You also need to be quite good at writing essays, so have some practise with grammar and spelling. Also make sure that you are confident in speaking in front of others, you have to do a speaking and listening presentation about a topic of your choice.

    I hope this helps you.

  5. Read a lot, for a start.

  6. you just have to study english by your heart. If anyone is good in english in your home so take his/her help an d just tell him/her whatever the problem is there if not then you can take the help by your teachers help and remember one thing while studying you need not to concentrate in any other activity. I just want to say do a lot of practice because practice makes a man better. so I hope you'll follow this tips.

    bye tc.

  7. Read more, try and speak up lots in class next year, i'm also 14 and are going into year 10 next year, I'm ok at english so i've taken up an extra english thing, to replace art but I won't get an extra gcse for it, i'll still get my normal english gcse though in year 11, so im only aiming for 9 instead of 10 gcses at the end of year 11.  I would aim to be more confident, I'm going to because I am really uncomfortable with english.
