My daughter got candle wax all down the front of her cotton dress. Does anyone know how to remove it and any greasy looking spots that may be left behind?

  1. I'd start by scraping off as much wax as you can with either your nails or a butter knife.  Then put a newspaper/brown paper bag on either side of the waxy area of the dress and iron it with a warm iron.  This will melt the wax again and transfer it to the newspaper.

If there are still greasy spots, I'd suggest a stain remover called Carbona.  It comes in little yellow bottles and it sold at most grocery stores (I know Kroger and Alberstons carry it, and Walmart used to).  They sell 10 different types for different types of stains and I think they work wonderfully!  I've also heard that Oxyclean works, but I've had it discolor some clothing before when I used it.

  2. try a paper towel and and an iron  to melt the wax

then stain remover or Head and Shoulders shampoo to remove any stains.... I used to do this with table clothes for the restaurant I worked at!

  3. I have taken a brown paper bag laid in on the spot and Ironed it.  The wax absorbes into the bag.  I use dishwashing liquid to disolve the oily residue.

  4. buy a new dress.

  5. put a bathroom towel on top of the dress and iron it. Brown bags or paper towels do not work as effecively,w the towel should remove all the wax.  if there are grease stains left behind, soak it in borax and warm water with a little bit of laundry soap.

-i've gotten candle wax out of carpet and furniture this way

-my dh is a chef, i launder his greasy work clothes at home, the borax soak gets all the grease spots out

  6. When I got wax on my sweatshirt, I scrapped off what I could and used a blow dryer on low heat on the rest
