Question:

How can I get cigarette-smoke smell out of a futon mattress?

My sister and I picked up a futon our neighbors were throwing away (they're redoing their house) and it's great... except that the mattress smells like cig.smoke. I took off the cover and washed it twice - it seems to be fine - and the matt. is currently on our porch, practically soaked in Lysol disinfectant spray.

Any tips or tricks as to how to get rid of the smoke smell? Or should I just give up on this one? (And if so... any idea how much a new futon matt. costs?)

Thanks so much for your help. =]

  1. don't smoke!

  2. spray it with fabreeze then put it in an airtight bag for a few days it might work.

i had an afghan that i made that smelled like cig smoke, i did what i suggested to you and the smell of cigs was gone

  3. I would get a new one.  They are not too much.  You might be able to pick one up at a second hand store.

  4. it will eventually, you need to sit it out side on the porch, and let the air and wind do their magic

  5. Febreze like crazy!

  6. Keep it outside and eventually the smell will go, it just takes time.  Annoying, I know!  Try spraying it with Febreze as well, that helps.

  7. SPRAY WITH LYSOL, THEN FEBREEZE!
