How can I get experience as a Medical receptionist if I don't have the training?

I am trying to switch jobs from being a retail manager to becoming a medical receptionist. All the job openings I see require experience. How do I get that?

Review the job description and then explain how the skills you've utilized in a previous position can be applied to the job responsibilities.    A medical receptionist is truly not the same as a receptionist in business.   It would be EXTREMELY helpful to take a medical terminology class to understand the "talk" in a physician's office.

DO not follow the advice of making up experience.  More and more frequently, physicians and employers are doing background checks, verifying previous employment.  If you are caught in a lie, you'll never get the job or... it's grounds for automatic dismissal

They require experience as a way to bully young people.       What you need to do is claim you have experience at it, make up some experience,  Claim you worked at some compay as a medical receptionist for 5 years or so.

listen to Healthy Person they are right!!! no mater how much experience you have each job is new and they have there own way's of doing things.

You can always said you have receptionist experience such as answering phone calls, good people skill to handle clients, and you can manger paperworks. That is what you do for retail manager, and it will be similar what you are doing for the medical office. I think most of them requires experience because of insurance filing which you emphasis that you can learn, because you need to know your products when they come in and you need to work with each different vendors.

Read the job description clearly, and put down in your resume according to the description and use your current experience to relate to what they are looking for. They might give you a good chance if you show you are a quick learner.
