What is the cheapest/fastest way? I tried buying train tickets on raileurope.com but it says they will deliver them to my house and I wont be here anymore by the time they arrive; is there any way I can purchase E-tickets online or can I just arrive there at the station that day and buy them? Will there be still be available seats?

  1. The only thing I would add to what's already been said is that you don't have to buy your train ticket with a credit card; you can of course also use cash. However you pay for your ticket, just be sure to validate your it before boarding the train.

  2. Except for TGV (high speed train) and night trains you do not have to book a seat. You can get a ticket and seat on any free seat. Some people do book and their seat has a little paper saying "reservé". Avoid those.

To buy a ticket at the station just arrive around half an hour before the train leaves and buy your ticket at one of the electronic machines or at the counter. You pay with Visa or Master (Probably others but I don't know them).

You can find the timetable here in English :

  3. Buying train tickets is rather simple in Europe. A lot of inter-regional trains do not have assigned seats, so if it is full, which it will only be if there is some special event going on, then it is first come first serve. You can buy on the day of and I don't think there is any difference in price!

I would suggest going to www.sncf.com for schedules and rates!

  4. Hiya,

You can buy a train ticket at the train station.

    Cheerio.
