We are flying out of the Pisa airport (code PSA) next July 5 (Sat.) on a 12:35PM flight; we'd like to be at the airport by 10AM or so.

We will be starting the day in Serre di Rapolano [SdR] (35km east southeast of Siena). How can we get to the Pisa airport from SdR?

Is there a bus/train that can take us the entire way? Or would we need to take a taxi to Siena and find rapid transit from there up to Pisa?

Any specific info on train nos./routes or bus nos/routes, along with costs, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any help you can provide!

  1. Right now, there's a train that connects from Rapolano Terme to Pisa Airport that runs on Saturdays. The only one that will get you there before 10:00 leaves at 5:09 am with connections in Siena and another in Empoli. The total travel time is just under 3 hours (arriving at the airport station at 8:07 am. The next train leaving Rapolano Terme (6:50 am) takes longer and won't get you to the airport until 10:25 am. A 2nd class ticket is 8.90 euro; 1st class is 12.40 euro.

If you go directly to Siena, there are a couple of trains per hour which will take you to Empoli for a connection to Pisa Airport. This is the starting page for the English language interface for the Italian train website: http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html

Please be aware that the current train schedules are good through the 8th of December when the winter schedule goes into effect. There will be another change in June. Usually there are a lot of small adjustments, but the basic structure is still valid, but you need to check the specific times and prices closer to your travel dates.

There appears to be a station in Serre di Rapolano, but I couldn't find any schedules. The train from Rapolano Terme to Siena doesn't stop there.
