  1. all information about transportation in costa rica can be found here

  2. Ecoplaya Resort is near the border with Nicaragua and quite a ways from Daniel Oduber airport in Liberia.  I may be mistaken, but I believe that you can call the resort and arrange transportation.  You can call Toll Free from the USA and CANADA 877-211-5512. If you need any other Costa Rica information, got to the TicosLand website.  It is a web directory with lots of Costa Rica related information

  3. If you've ever been to Costa Rica--you don't want to drive. . . .Trust me. Traffic is like nothing you've ever seen.

Traffic/driving is horrendous because, basically, nobody gives any regards to basic traffic rules--like stopping for red lights or signs. Pedestrians meander in and out of the street with little or no regard to oncoming traffic.

But the real problem with driving in Costa Rica is that there's no organized way of following a map or locating an address by a street number. If you were to ask someone on the street for directions for a specific place  they wouldn't give you a street address, they would start naming landmarks ("go to the Bank turn left, find the such-and-such market and turn right...") Plus sometimes you have to travel on little roads that wind around hills and mountains to get to some resorts.

I would recommend using a taxi or a bus. Taxis are everywhere--literally.  You might check with a tour group concerning transportation.

I'm unfamiliar with Ecoplaya, but I know a couple of years ago I was in CR and took a ferry to  a certain resort.

It's a beautiful country, by the way.

  4. driving in guanacaste is okay, the main highway got fixed and has great roads that are in good conditions like the main ones, the problem is driving into the metropolitan area thats a great mess

  5. I'd rent a car at the airport.....Most rent-a car places give you a map.....The maps are not that great....If you have a descent since of direction you should be fine....Also, GPS may also be an option when renting a car.....Depends on traffic your trip should only take 2-3 hours....

Driving here is not as bad as it sounds....I've lived here for 3 years and drive everywhere....Granted it's not like driving in the states or Canada....Just remember to be careful and aware at all times....Don't get mad at the locals for driving crazy, it's just their way......Good Luck!!!!
