How can I get glow-in-the-dark stars off my ceiling?

I have a ton of glow-in-the-dark stars on my ceiling that I'd like to take off. They've been up for 6 years, it's time for them to go.

The problem is, some of the sticky tabs are so stuck to the ceiling they actually pull paint and the first layer of drywall off with them.

I know I can go an repair the little holes but I'd like to avoid spackling over 100 dime sized holes on my ceiling.

Any ideas or helpful hints would be much appreciated.

  1. I had this problem as well and I ended up just taking craft paint (the same color as the ceiling) and dabbing paint over them.  It worked very well and you can't tell that they were ever there.

  2. You may want to look into using a product called "Goo-Gone". Test if first on a little spot of celing to be sure that the chemicals don't interact with the paint. Typically it dissolves adhesive substances and may, if anything, make th sticky tabs a little softer so they're easier to scrape off.
