How can I get hold of a real animal heart (pig or cow would be good)?

I need it for a photography project. I thought maybe a butcher...?

  1. yeah go to a butchers shop....go to a grocery store..a lot of them especially mom pop types...have them...you can call around and ask for one

Butcher or slaughterhouse are reasonable choices.  I'd suggest going to a research lab, especially if you live near a college campus.  Animals (rabbit, dog, pig, sometimes cow) are often used in experimentations - usually these animals are euthanized anyway, so there is no reason why you couldn't take some photographs of the heart.  Email professors - you can usually find a directory online.

  3. Small custom slaughterhouss would be your best bet.  They save the internal organs and package them for their customers.  Many of them don't want them and the butcher could arrange for you to buy one from a customer who doesn't want it.

Call 800 goog411  its a free call, then say your city and state.  Ask for butchers this will even give you the butchers in big super markets or super walmarts if its for photography you want to talk to them and explain the project.  That way you can get the juiciest bloodiest heart they have maybe even have them leave some of the arteries and things on it.
