I"m 16. I'm a junior. There has always been violence at school so I don't think I can get that as an excuse to get home school.

  1. You don't need approval from the school to homeschool. You and your mom should have a look at the laws. Just type in your state's name and homeschool laws into Yahoo search and you'll find more information about what you need to do.

I think your school is confusing homeschooling with home-bound--you usually need a medical reason to do home-bound.

  2. See if theres a virtual school in your state that you can attend.

  3. tell the school that you are on the verge of dropping out and if you do, you will go to the local tv station to tell them why....fear of the violence in the district. tell the school that they can either offer you an alternative program, like an at home tutor, or guarantee your safety or you will share what you know on public radio stations, etc.

It would help if you could round a few other kids to join your movement too....like if a dozen of you all said the same thing at the same time, wow! wouldn't the news like that!?

  4. my friend was homeschooled last year. maybe you should get into LOTS of fight. and be EXTREMELY BAD. and maybe tell your parents that you need home school.

i don't know but that is how i think my friend got homeschooling

  5. Assuming you are in the U.S., you don't actually need the school's permission to home school. Check out the laws for your state on the Home School Legal Defense Association's Website and feel free to begin the process for your state.

  6. You can do legal homeschooling in your state without needing a doctor's note.  Check out your state laws here:

  7. You don't need an excuse to homeschool.  You just need your parents to be involved.  They can formally withdraw you from school.

I think you're thinking of "home bound" education.  This is where a tutor from the school comes to your home to go over work and give you assignments.  It's typically reserved for chronically ill, or chronically in trouble students.

If you're looking for an "excuse" to homeschool to give your parents, why not do a lot of research in HS'ing and give them a proposal?

EDITED TO ADD (after your other details):

The school is talking about home BOUND education, NOT home schooling.  Look up your state's laws on HS'ing and do what the district wants you to do to withdraw from the school.  The school district has NO SAY if you are really HS'ing.  The reason you can't get a doctor's note is because the school is thinking home bound, not HS'ing.

Homeschooling is legal in every state.  The school probably doesn't want to lose your tax money, so of course they're going to want to hang on to you.  But going into HS'ing is just like transferring to a private school (which most HS's are considered in most states).

Here is a link to look up your HS'ing laws.

Then also search the 'net for your state's board of education.  They will have the laws posted about HS'ing and what to do to withdraw from a school district.
