How can I get hot tar (ie roofing tar) off my dryer drum?

My DH is a hot tar roofer, and we wind up with tar all over the house. Right now it's covering the inside of my dryer, and I'm all out of the industrial strength orange cleaner that I usually use. If your suggestion works, you get ten points!

  1. WHITE SPIRIT OR TURPS WILL TAKE IT OFF

  2. Goof-off will work fine but it has a strong odor that takes a while to dissipate. Nail polish remover (acetone) might cut it also. I also heard mayonnaise. (?)

  3. mineral spirits and a rag evaporates pretty quick

  4. Wd 40 will work............but then you will need to weep your drying down to get the light coat of oil off..........spray it on a rag....not in the dryer...........good luck.........hope this is electric not gas.

  5. I heard butter of all things work on tar, but  I don't know about roof tar.Try it.

  6. If you can get someone to drag it outside use gasoline on a old rag. Make sure it has all vapped off before you drag it back in or you will burn down your house when you try use it. leave it outside for a couple of days.
