How can I get in shape for waterpolo?

I have a few weeks in between my swimming and waterpolo seasons. What types of activites/excersizes can I do to get in shape for waterpolo season other than joining a club?

  1. what i would do is this:

    since my water polo season just ended, i have about 2 months before swimming.

    make sure you work your tail off in swim season, this takes care of the swimming part.

    in these two months, i am working out using just regular dumbells

    try to go to a water polo camp if you can; my school offers one so i just go to that over the summer

    so:

    lift weights; they help you to turn people and fight in the water as well as your shot

    swim: it helps you sprint back so you can get the easy shot on a fastbreak

  2. If you have access to a pool swim 2 hours a day 5 days a week, with short runs intersperced(sp?). Break it up with weight lifting.

  3. Start by doing lots of swimming, add some other cardio like cross country.  I also like to do some weight lifting before I get in the pool- it really helps!
