I am currently 15 years old, and live in Glasgow, Scotland and I am extremely interested in going to New York University, however I am quite unsure of how to do this. Also, I was wondering what it would cost me to do this, or if i would be able to get a scholarship. Can anyone help me?

  1. Basically:

    1)  Take the hardest classes offered in your school, especially those in the area you want to focus in (eg if you want engineering, do physics and math)

    2) Get the highest grades. Typically, you will want to be in the top 5% of your country.

    3) Take the SAT and the SAT II and get a 95th or higher percentile.

    4) Get involved in extracurricular activities, whether sports or dance or music or more intellectual pursuits like debating societies. Become the team leader and win regional and national competitions. It is better to focus on one or two strong activities where you can excel rather than doing a hundred things mediocrely.

    5) If you can find local colleges where they teach classes in the major you are interested in, take some classes during the summer and get good grades at them.

    6) Find some teachers who can give you excellent letters of recommendation. These can make or break your application, so only pick people whom you trust.

    7) Hire a professional college-application assistance company to help you review your applications (have them pay special attention to your essays) when you eventually apply.

    8) Don't be too disappointed if you don't get in. Most people don't, even with all the achievements I listed above. That's basically true with all good universities. At the end of the day, it's a crapshoot anyway unless you have multimillionaire parents who can buy you a place at the university.

Top-tier universities in America cost about $35k-$50k each year. Therefore, you are looking at between $150 to $200 thousand over a four year term. Scholarships are available, but are generally limited and very difficult to get. Check with the admissions office of each individual university for more information on what they offer.

  2. Excellent school if you dont mind being in over 100k debt after graduation, you can try a top tier school in ny such as stony brook university or baruch as well
