How can I get internet connection in my basement?

I have verizon internet and phone service but i have cabel tv. There is a cable wire in my basement and I want to know if there is a way to put a router in the basement or what kind i should use and how to do it. !!** DONT SUGGEST BUYING A WIRELESS SIGNAL BOOSTER**!!

  1. Is what you're asking is if there is anyway to convert your Internet from Verizon (DSL?) into sharing the coax cable that your cable TV is on? I'm guessing the cable is both upstairs and in your basement, so you're trying to avoid running an Ethernet cable from upstairs into the basement by reusing that coax cable.

    The answer to the conversion part is yes. Look into Ethernet over coax products like this one: http://www.omegacubed.net/ethernet_over_... The part I am hesitant about is what the video signal already on the coax adds to the task. There may be ways to set the frequencies that the converters use on the coax, but that's not something I've ever done.
