How can I get invited to Antarctica?

My understanding is that you cannot set foot on Antarctica without an invite from the scientific societies that study there. I would love to go. How can I get invited? You know, just for a few hours.

Not possible to be invited unless you are a scientist (or get a job as one of the support staff ie. cook, carpenter etc.)  You can go as a paying tourist.  Trips leave from Australia, New Zealand and South America.  These cruises are quite expensive and will take around 2 weeks.  If you only have a few hours, there are occasional scenic flights from Australia where the plane flies very low over the Antarctic and you can look out the window.
