I am looking for some information on how to get involved and participate in a grassroots/advocacy organization. I am not satisfied with the information given to the public from government agencies such as the EPA and FDA. they are hiding important information and hurting the health of people all over the world.

  1. Just what this world needs...Another amoeba minded progressive!!!!

  2. Pick an area of interest--environment, peace, social justice, the media, civic affairs--and find out which groups are active locally. You can check the community calendar in local newspapers, or online. The local librarian can be very helpful in showing you what associations are active.

Failing any local organizations that appeal to you, you can talk to your friends and neighbours, put an ad in the paper, and start your own group.

Going to your municipal hall and listening in to the presentations can give you an idea what issues are most pressing locally, as well as reading the newspapers, local and national.

In Canada, organizations like the Council of Canadians have chapters throughout the country, but there are equivalent groups in the States. Simply Googling EPA and FDA should give you some leads. Wikipedia lists some controversies in its history of the former. There is also some controversy regarding Gardasil. See source below. Another source claims right-wing think tanks and drug companies are attempting to discredit the FDA.

Basically you have to use your own ingenuity; soon you will surely find a congenial and productive group. Good luck!
