Currently, I'm doing NOTHING, but I'd like to get involved. I just feel a draw to it. I just...I don't know, feel a need to try to make the world around me better than I leave it rather than being a big drag on it. Any ideas?

  1. I don't know wear you live but in my aria I volunteer with a fire company, If you like me and don't enjoy running into burning buildings you can do EMS or rescue, Try the red cross or similar agency in your aria

  2. its really easy you could volenteer at a animal hospital pick up trash around your neighborhood any thing that helps the community is community service

  3. I love that you feel moved to do something.  There are so many things you can do.  Contact the United Way in your area and they can give you a list of places to volunteer.  There are so many things that need to be done, positions to be filled.  If you are looking for something simple there are crisis lines that are extremely easy to volunteer for.  In my town the name of our crisis center is The Victim Center but it may be different in your area.  All you have to do is be available to take calls twice a month.  A hotline will contact you if your services are needed in a crisis or victimization situation.  Of course you can volunteer at shelters, kitchens, there are Boys and Girls clubs.  The nice thing about volunteering for your community is that you can choose to do something that really interests you like building houses, teaching children, counseling, accounting, the list goes on and on.  You can always check in the phone book or in your local newspaper for places looking for volunteers.  If you still have trouble finding something that interests you or if you aren't able to find any organizations please feel free to shoot me an email and I can put something together for you.  Good luck and thanks for doing something for society!

  4. For the USA: VolunteerMatch (http://www.volunteermatch.org), Idealist (http://www.idealist.org) and CraigsList (http://www.craigslist.com) all list volunteering opportunities with thousands of organizations. There's also this government sponsored site (http://volunteer.gov/gov/) which provides volunteer positions through USA federal land agencies like Fish & Wildlife, Forest Service, National Parks, etc. Also, contact your local volunteer center; you can find this via the Points of Light Foundation web site (http://www.pointsoflight.org/centers/).

  5. You can look up retirement centers, charities, hospitals and other services providing community service in the yellow pages of the phone book.  These places are always looking for new hands.
