How can I get large amounts of quality traffic through my website?

I have a technical support website for broadband and PC users, SEO is not my strong point, It is more of a hobby and is designed to help people it has a forum and an online shop.

How can I get free targeted traffic or where can I purchase genuine targeted traffic from.

I would like to get members to join my forum and spread the word about my online shop, so I can create content which will help people solve their technical problems as well as increase my page rank and hopefully drive up sales in my online shop.

I received an email on this a few days ago, gaining more traffic for your website, it was from http://www.pdq247.com/free-website-surve...  and read:

"We found your site and we liked it, but it looks like you could be getting a

lot more visibility and traffic on the search engines if your site was

easier to locate. For no cost to you we will analyze your site and your web

placement and show you how a higher listing with specific key words would

greatly benefit your online results."

I'm not sure whether they are genuine or not but a similar way to their approach would work, getting your site noticed in search engines. I haven't bothered to see if they are genuine because my site already has good positioning in search engines without buying into something like this, as it's quite unique in the first place.

To get targeted traffic whether free or paid what you'll need to do is to look for places and websites online where your possible targets are, that is, your own specific audience who you want to offer technical solutions, are they business, individuals, government organizations etc

You will need to start creating relevant content for your targets now, even before you get a good following on your forum/websitye, if you have relevant content your web visitors will come back to visit your website/forum.

Traffic was my focus for past week or so, and since I am very new to SEO, the only way I can get traffic is promoting through forums and classified ads. So where do I get thousands of hits?

Mastering Craigslist gave me at least 7,000 hits within a week, just post ads across the popular cities, two to three cities everyday, my next blog will be revealing how I optimized craiglist.

Ebay's forum gave me 500 hits with 1 single post, just blend your link with a topic, bump it once or twice until everyone in the community goes to the link, then you can start posting that in another section that's related.

Digg gave me around 100 hits with 1 single post, which is kind of surprising because I've never even know that site until recently.

This is a very easy thing to do.  One of the best ways is to get as many links as possible to your site.  Make sure you have your site listed in google, yahoo, msn.  Get it listed in directories.

You could also build a content website to direct people to that site.  I have a content site that gets 7000 hits a month for doing a little bit of work each month.  If I did a lot of work, then I could get a lot more.

It would be more effective if the forum wasn't your main page, or if you had several articles on your site that visitors can land on and join your forum as a secondary option.  I don't think that many folks who are looking for free tech support are looking to immediately join a forum to solve a problem.  So, if there are useful articles that will draw them in on the search engines, and they can't necessarily find what they are looking for, they may join the forum to get the specialized help they need.  You can also submit your site to get a free one way link to your site at the link below.  Each link pointing to your site helps!
