  1. First , you must have a good repeatable swing. Then you have to have better than average swing speed, strong hands and wrists. Now, the simple procedure which you will have to fine tune for your stature etc. Play the ball in about the middle of your stance. On the downswing your club should hit the lower third of the back of the ball driving the club into the turf which will impart the spin you desire. The more swing speed you have the more spin you will produce. Tiger is the prime example for imparting various degrees of backspin.

  2. put the ball back in your stance. dont use rocks. look at the front of the ball. hands before club.

  3. Its a combination of a number of things that put a lot of backspin on the ball.

    1. The Ball : use a ProV1 or other 3 piece ball

    2. Grooves : make sure your grooves are clean and sharp

    3. Swing : hit down on the ball to impart more backspin

    That's about it, have fun!

  4. Cut your attack angle.

  5. use a lob wedge with more angle

  6. Steeper angle of attack will help.  Wedges and balls have A LOT to do with it.  I never had a lot of success spinning my wedge shots until I started playing the premium balls and Titleist Vokey Spin Milled wedges.  The amount of spin the spin milled wedges puts on the ball is absolutely ridiculous.  Don't expect them to spin a Top Flite XL ball back 5 feet from 40 yards though.

All wedges now have grooves that will help spin the ball, like the Cleveland wedges and their "Zip" grooves.  I still the the spin milled produce the most spin, though.  Nike One Platinum and Titleist ProV1 and Callaway HX-Tour 56 are the balls that probably produce the most spin on wedge shots.

  7. You must hit down on the ball crisply, hit ball first then take your divot.  It doesn't hurt to add a little more hand action than normal either right at impact.
