  1.   Steps

-Be sure to know what dance beat is on. If you start on the wrong beat, you will look like you have no idea what you're doing.

-Bring your friends to dance with you. You don't stand out as much when you dance in a group.

-Pretend like no one's watching. Don't concentrate on the people around you - just dance.

-Try moves that you're comfortable with. It can be something simple like a turn or a step - it doesn't have to be anything difficult.

-Talk to your friends. Gossip, laugh, smile - let it all out. It will put you in a party mood and give you a bit more courage.

-Don't worry. It could be your shirt, hair, weight, or even dance style.

Forget all about it. Remember that you are your toughest critic and that everyone is to busy worrying about themselves to notice you.

Go at your own pace. If it's a bit difficult in the beginning, then go and dance at the back. Once you feel more brave, you can work your way to the front and with the rest of your friends.

Realize your achievements. Whenever you nail a dance move, pat yourself on the back (figuratively). You'll get more confidence once you see that you are doing well.

    Tips

Request a song that you know so you'll be comfortable and familiar with the beat.

You can check the mirror before to make sure that there's nothing stuck in your teeth/hair/pants.

Make sure that you wear shoes that are confortable enough you can dance and move around with them.

    Warnings

Be careful where you step. Hitting or stepping on someone makes things much more embarrassing, so try to control your moves.
