  1. Simply reflashing the chip can buy you 20-30hp. I assume you have the 3.5L V-6 ? I have that engine in my '03 maxima, w/255hp. That same engine powers the 350Z, and that's 300hp+.

  2. If you want more power/speed.. then your going to have to deal with loud.

Chips are worthless.. all those cheap chips do is fool your engine into thinking the air is colder than it is. This makes the engine run rich.. which burns more gas and amounts to little horsepower gains. Real chip upgrades will run you about $500.. and much more horsepower can be gained with other mods. I only reccomend have the ECU upgraded if you want to raise your redline.. the engine will automatically adjust to any other mods you put on.

The first thing you do to attain more power is install a intake and upgrade the exhaust. Mods to the engine are pointless without opening up both ends of the engine first.

The air intake will only be louder when your accelerating. When your cruising you wont even notice.. when you rev the engine you'll get a deep rumble/sucking sound. If you get a short ram intake.. you will lose low end power and gain in the upper RPM's. With the cold air intake power gain is even throughout the revs.

So far as exhaust you can get yourself a catback that attaches. I put on new headers, Y-Pipe, deleted the cat-converter and then attached a Megan Cat-Back exhaust.

All told I have myself 81 more horses.. and 72Ft-Lb of torque which should be more than enough to suit your need for speed.

  3. go to maxima.org and do a search.  this answer alone should give me the best answer.

you can do cattman headers @ around $800(30 hp or so), a y-pipe for around $200(15-20 hp), gab and oscai +k&N filter(filter price plus modding air box, 9hp dyno-proven) or you can do it big and get a supercharger for it but itll run you around 9k for the setup and another 9k for a different tranny. or get the "poor man's turbo" some nitrous. Ive read that you can safely run a 50 shot of nitrous to your VQ on stock internals.

You have the 3.0L v6 and its only 227 stock hp ,the anniversary edition came with 5 more HP than the non-AE maxima @ 222HP, thats not at the wheels though. the 02 and 03 (5.5 gen max) came with the 3.5L 255 HP engine in it.

p.s. DONT PUT A CRAPPY CHIP IN YOUR MAXIMA! you'll thank me later if you end up going to the site.

  4. There are obvious things like changing to lighter wheels and performance tires as well as weight reduction by taking out seats and changing them out as well as Air Intake and what not.....

However, if you have "Need for speed" what you can do is get some education and find a better job that pays you well.

I always had two jobs growing up to be able to afford school and car addiction, but now that I am out of school with a degree, I can afford to pay for cars and work on after market parts and have normal everyday car as well so I don't have to sacrifice my fun ride.
