How can I get my 10 year old son to stop sucking his finger?

My ten year old son has been sucking his finger since he was 2 years old, shortly after I had my daughter... I have tried, thumbs, peppers, hot suace, band-aides, and tape... please help!!

It's just something he will have to stop on his own. It's a comfort thing. Try to remind him when you see him and have him wash his hands. I sucked my thumb for years. Soon after stopping sucking my thumb I started smoking ( at 15). Would you rather see him with is fingers in his mouth or a cigarette? He could start eating more to, just to keep that feeling of putting something in his mouth.

:) u can make paste of Asafetida .. and apply it on his finger... it tastes bitter.. and not harm ful for the health.. infact.. even if he sollow that.. its good for stomoch...

Im 22 I still suck my thumb. I know its really weird for people and I do subconsciously all the time too. My parents used to put hot pepper, vinegar, tape, gloves and retainers on me but its just something that I do and it relaxes me.

well ask him to stop or you will cut off his finger

or tell him that if he dosent stop then a monster(or what ever he is afraid of the most) will come and take him away to h**l

try nail polish remover. I had that done to me and I never did it again! :) I would try putting some on when he's sleeping or something. Basically you want to try to do something when they don't notice, in some way it helps them quit sucking. Plus, its hard to wash off your finger.

I did that through my teens! Never in public but it was a great comfort. Don't try to stop it....when I gave it up I substituted a more dangerous oral comfort- SMOKING! Wish I still sucked my finger!

Put some hot sauce on it or put a band aide on it no one wants to suck a band aide
