I bought a male 4-5 week old feeder rat on Friday, August 1st as a pet. I guess I wanted to "save him" from his fate of being eaten by something scaley and/or bigger than him. Anyway, over the days I've had Sammy (that's his name), I've noticed a nipping habit. It's definatly not grooming, I can tell you that. But it seems like a warning bite to tell me to back off or something. I never bled from it, but he always gives me these "looks" that he will bite me that hard, one day. I really want the poor thing to trust me more, and I don't know how. He's alone, by the way. No cagemates, no comments. Don't tell me I'm doing something wrong by keeping him as a lone rat because I've been told by the "ratlady" herself that that is perfectly OK to keep him alone. =D
I want to know how to get Sammy
-- to eat out of my hands
-- to let me put him on his back to scratch his belly
-- to groom me
-- and to at least just trust me!!
Thanks to all who take their time to answer!
