How can I get my TomTom GPS to connect to the Internet?

I am trying to download maps for my Tom Tom GPS and the device keeps telling me that I am not connected to the Internet. I can go to other windows and get on line. How can Ifix this?

turn it off plug in to tomtom and modem turn on it'll say connect to computer  yes    no   (on tomtom) press yes an icon will be at bottom of computer click on that and HERRRRESS tomtom,,, I JUST DID IT JUST NOW,,,

phone tom tom GPS you need  to update the system send a(FIRMWARE DISK)  do not download into net
