How can I get my Vista PC to resolve the IP address for my Series 1 Tivo (with TivoWebPlus)?

TivoWebPlus on my Series 1 Tivo works just great on my Windows XP machine (yay!)

But I just got a VISTA machine for my living room and I cannot find my

Tivo on the network through Firefox or though IE

http://192.168.x.x/nowshowing

I thought this may be due to DHCP settings

and edited my registry based on MS KB

I also fooled around with this Fix Tool from Reviewing IT

But the vista machine still cannot even find my Tivo.

Basically, I should be able to just type http://192.168.x.x (yep x= real numbers assigned to my machine)

and I should see my TivoWebPlus.

I also checked that McAffee & Windows Firewall were either off or would permit the IP address.

I had trouble getting a lease from my TiVo's when I switched to Vista. Worse I was dumb enough to go to Vista 64 bit.

Try this -

Turn off your TiVo and power cycle your modem and router (unplug them don't use the power switch).

Turn on -

Your modem, wait a minute then your router, then plug in your TiVo (give TiVo three or four minutes to boot up) and finally your computer.

That worked for me and I hope it will for you.

Are you sure your Tivo gets an IP address?

If you can, try to find the IP address of your Tivo.

Is it a valid address? It should be 192.168.a.b and "a" should be the same as the "a" in the IP of your PC - both of them need to be in the same subnet. (the "b" should be different og course).

Then go to your PC, open the cmd window and do a ping

ping 192.168.a.b   <----the address of Tivo

If you can ping, then the PC and Tivo are on the same network. If not, then you have a networking problem.
