Question:

How can I get my cat to p**p in the litter tray?

I have three cats, who have been very happy using a litter tray for years, up until now. Before we had a mechanical litter tray that would scoop the p**p into a closed box, so there was no smell, no visible p**p. Recently, it broke down so now we just use it as a regular litter tray. That is the only thing that has changed.

For some reason, I keep finding cat poo on my bed and in my bathroom, even when the litter tray is completely clear. I'm not sure which cat is doing this, but it's obviously getting extremely annoying, and I really want them to stop. How can I get my cats to stop crapping on my bed and in my bathroom and only in their litter tray? It's driving me crazy. Any info on this would be much appreciated. Thankyou

  1. Try being nice to them and pet them even if you do and just point to the litter tray and see if they do that and after a few times the cat will know its territorial place to drop its leavings!

  2. get the same box that you had befor

  3. Well, this is not an easy question to answer.  But I will guess that it is one cat on your bed and the other on the floor.

My guess is also that they miss their old c**p ground.  (tongue in cheek).

Did you also change litter brands?  You know how finicky cats are!

Until you can replace your old litter box, I suggest you close your bedroom door while you are not inside the bedroom.

Leave you cats in the bathroom until they use it... after they have eaten.

(I know they nibble all day) but after their main meal.

Praise them for using the litter box while left in the bathroom.

Leave them in the bathroom when you leave the house also.

I hope this helps, I had the same problem with another animal, my bunny

unfortunately my bunny (they cannot stand stress) became shy of me because yelled at her and I am having a heck of a time trying to win her affection again.  (they aren't as smart as cats).  But she is well trained to her box.  Even though it is rabbit habit to pee and p**p in their boxes...their p**p is excellent fertilizer and i just wash the cloths tthat I line the box with and reuse them.

    Good Luck!!

Bottom line, I think the problem with your kitties is they do not like their new diggins

  4. I have the exact same problem!

But I never thought about the fact that my automatic litter box had broken down.

Now I just have 2 separate litter boxes and even then, one of the cats will leave "little presents" for us where we least expect them.

Maybe we should both get new auto boxes???

  5. Obviously, your cats were used to pooping in a litter box before, but when you got a different litter box, they weren't used to it and just became lazy and started pooping wherever they wanted to. I'm thinking that you would just want to train them again to use the litter box. Although it doesn't seem like it now, cats are very clean animals and don't like to live in a messy environment. So, you could keep your cats in somewhat of a small area, such as a little bedroom with food, water and a litter box, the first time they p**p under your bed, closet etc. they won't like the idea that the area is becoming messy, and will start pooping in the litter box again. As soon as you realize that the cats are pooping in the litter box, you can again let them roam through your house, and they will continue to use the litter box.

  6. keep the litter clean ot they will not use it

  7. Have you shown them where the litter box is

  8. About 10-15 minutes after they are done eating, put them in the liter box and pet them, try to hold them down but not hard where they will feel angry and they will soon learn

  9. even if the tray was a bit dirty the cat would still use it they are not bothered by there own scent but each cat should have there own box its a territorial thing, now that the p**p it not being automactically scooped they have to smell each other, its a territorial thing especially if there females and males.

if you get 3 boxes they will stop doing that or even 2 may work if you watch your cat do that on your floor or wherever youll see that they paw that spot like marking the territory
