How can I get my chihuahuas to stop barking at the cats? Any time the cats get close, mainly the male barks?

incessantly until the cats move. I tell him to be quiet and in a stern voice but he won't listen. He just won't stop doing it. Has anyone else had this problem?

with the breed of dog you have it is really hard to shut them up. i have yet to meet a quiet chihuahua

All my chis hate cats. Don't know why. They just do. I gave up trying to change that situation a long time ago. Since I don't own cats, it's not a real problem for me. I have a GSD that would kill one if he could get hold of it. But does fine with other dogs large and small and with people of all ages.

My Italian Greyhound LOVES to bark at my parents 2 cats. I went out and bought a spray bark collar and it works wonders. I put it on him and he barks once and gets sprayed. After that he stops barking and I take the collar off. He generally stops barking at them after that. If he starts up again he gets the collar put back on. It cost me around $55 but it was well worth it. And I would definitely get the spray collar, NOT the shock collar.

You need to let your dogs know that YOU ARE the ALPHA DOG.

It may take having a rolled up magazine and smacking on the table or just your hand and saying "NO".  It needs to be corrected now and not later.

My mom has a chihuahua/miniature pincher and she'll growl at my step-dad when he goes to kiss my mom or sit next to her on the bed.  They thought it was funny when it first happened and just let it go.  It still happens.  I never allowed it and she doesn't do that when I hug my mom.

if they are sitting next to you and barking at the cats, every time they back at the cats shove them away quick and firmly. it sound like they are protecting you, but if they are not around you they have nothing to protect.
