She is 3 and has stick straight hair. She will let other people brush it but she screams when I try.

Any suggestions?

  1. take her out and have her pick a new hair brush for her and she can pick one for you too!!

let her brush your hair... make a deal: I'll brush your hair and you brush mine  :)

associate it with something fun like the answerers above said.. let her choose the style she likes, pick the accessories she prefers to wear today.... and try to be more gentile it hurts when someone else brushes your hair really more than you think specially when you're in a hurry (all moms are always!) and straight hair hurts the most because you dont see the knots ... try to do the ends first.. and if you bring fun into it she'll not be bored.

  2. Give her something to play with

    while you're brushing her hair.

You have to be calm, gentle as

    you can.

    Make a game of it.

  3. I had a similar problem except she wouldn't let anyone brush it- so- I let her go unbrushed!

When she got older and had to have it done, I'm afraid I just got to the end of my tether and it was a case of getting it over and done with as fast as possible-

  4. I went through this with my daughter. She has very curly hair. I bought her a special brush for her dolly, and when I was brushing her hair, she brushed her dollies :)

Now I can brush it without needing dolly

  5. i also use a de-tangler...this really helped. and starting at the ends of the hair, so as to not pull the tangles all the way thru but just a little at a time.  my daughter also stands in front of a mirror, sometimes just watching or brushing her teeth.  sometimes there is something to look forward to after the hair brushing-like after baths she can powder herself, or a snack , story time or some other activity.

    good luck

  6. My mom had the same problem with me!  She ended up creating a rule: "If you won't let me brush it, then you can't have it long, and we'll go and get it cut." It sounds harsh, but the ultimatum definitely worked!

  7. I had thr same problem with my daughter she is know 3-1/2.  this is what I did and it really worked.  Go to like Wal-mart, Target or walgreens and get a detangler for kids the spray kind I took my daughter with me and show her the one's they had and I let her pick it out and I told her that when i brush her hair I would spray some in her hair but only when I brush it.  She LOVES it know she brings it to me with her brush every morning and when she gets out of the bath every night to do her hair.  You might want to try that it worked for me hopefully it will work for you.  Goodluck!
