I tired walking, jogging, casteroil, mineroil, nipple stimpulation, I am not interested in s*x at all and my doctor even swept my membranes. I am only dilated 1cmm which makes me so mad. I have not been able to sleep for the last two weeks I been having extreme back pains that are shooting from my lower back along with swollen hands and feet. Can anyone help me PLEASE

  1. Well, if you have a man in your life, you should have s*x. Apparently, there is something in a man's sperm that can help bring you into labor and having a few orgasms yourself will help too - after all it wouldn't hurt!

  2. It's not at all uncommon to be uncomfortable, even very uncomfortable in the last few weeks of pregnancy.  I've had four children, and I know!  I've had weeks of strong Braxton-Hicks thinking that any moment real labor would start.  But, none of that, or what you described is a valid reason for induction.

It's not best for baby to induce unless there are medical reasons for concern about baby's health. With an induction, you increase the risks of C-section, uterine hyperstimulation (contractions abnormally strong and/or long), increased postpartum blood loss (with oxytocin/pitocin), newborn jaundice (with oxytocin/pitocin), uterine rupture (with Cytotec), etc. Sweeping the membranes increases the risk of infection and of the baby being born when not quite ready.  An induction is not something you do unless there is a solid medical reason.

Your "due date" is actually supposed to be the center of a due window during which your baby will probably be born, extending from 38 to 42 weeks. It's perfectly normal for a baby to not be born for up to 2 weeks after the "due date," or even longer for some women.  Your baby will be born soon enough, in the next 3 weeks or so.  Do what's best for your baby and just wait it out.

  3. I'm sorry you're uncomfortable, it's the nature of late pregnancy I'm sorry to say. Nobody said it was fun! Unfortunately maternal discomfort is not a valid medical necessity for induction of labor, and most doctors who practice ethically will not induce simply for that reason, because inductions are invasive procedures which increase risk to the mother's and baby's health.

Try to rest as much as possible and tough it out a little longer, you can do it.

  4. Ask your doc to try prostaglandin gel which I have heard does brun but its better than an injection of Picotin...

Here is a great site, to give you ideas you can try on your own...

Also have someone give you a really good, ankle massage, there are pressure points in your ankles to help get labor going better..

Good luck, as many other people said though it is really up to your body!  Best Wishes and good luck!

  5. Your cervix is running the show here.  The baby sitting on your cervix is what will help the dilation.  That's why walking is recommended, helps gravity to the work.

Some advise, getting induced without a favorable cervix will likely end in a c-section.  Inducing causes you to have contractions but it will not thin or dilate your cervix.  There are meds to put on your cervix to help that, but they still don't do the trick every time.

  6. Despite our impatience and our discomforts, babies come when they are ready.  Because you have tried numerous things to jump start labor with no success, this means that things are not ready yet for your little one to arrive.  When things aren't ready, even a medical induction won't always work.  I am mom to 4 who were all born past their due dates by 9 days, 11 days, 5 days, 7 days.  I understand discomfort and impatience, and frustration.  I tried it all, too.  s*x, walking, squats, nipple stimulation, eating spicy food, driving down miles of bumpy back roads, scrubbing floors on my hands and knees, walking up and down stairs were all things I tried with no success.  With my second and third babies I was dilated and effaced for weeks before they arrived.  That's just how labor works.  The early stages, when you dilate from 0-4, can take a matter of hours, days or even weeks before you are ready to go into the next, more active stage.  You can ask your doctor about induction, but unless there is a reasonable medical problem you may find he/she just isn't willing to do it.  It's not a mom-to-be's strong point, but patience and waiting are really your best course of action.

  7. LOL i think you should have s*x whether it is interesting to you or not! make sure dh ejaculates in you, because the sperm have the same chemical effect as pitocin! you will contract! i even had my water break during s*x! baby boy was born exact three hours after my water broke! that was a funny story.... anyways have s*x have s*x have s*x you will have that baby when she is ready and not before! but the contractions are what dialate you! Good luck and my dr always allowed tylenol pm to help me sleep during those last weeks!

  8. There is really nothing you can do. Your doctor will decide whether or not to induce you, which they don't usually do until after 39 weeks.

  9. Well we cannot help you have your baby, but we can give advice. And my advice is for you to calm down and be patient. You are only 39 weeks. You've waited this long and waiting until mother nature does its thing, or a doctor finds it medically necessary to take the baby out, won't kill you. Good luck when you do have your baby.

  10. Well, my answer is very unconventional, but here goes. My cousin had the same problem, and her doctor would not induce her. She had family come in from all over for the anticipated birth, but they were all waiting and waiting, and she hadn't dilated past 2, so the hospital sent her home. She went to her backyard, and got on the trampeline, and jumped for about 30 minutes while holding her tummy (they took pictures of it!), and sure enough, that night she went into labor and had a very healthy baby girl. Her labor went beautifully too! with my son, the Dr. would only strip my membranes, even though I was 1 week overdue. I wanted to kill him! LOL! So, I drank a glass of red wine (an old wives tale), and I went into labor that night! Hope this helps. :)

    Good luck during your labor!

  11. Sounds like you have tried most all of it.  If your baby is not ready it will not come out yet.  Have you asked your Dr about being induced?  I would keep trying to induce yourself if the Dr won't induce.
