Question:

How can I get my dog to go to the bathroom faster?

Why is it that dogs have to sniff around for so long just to do their thing? My dog sniffs around for about 10 minutes before he will pee and about 20 before he will p**p. We walk back and forth , up and down the side walk for so long. Any way to get him to go sooner? If not, that's ok. If its just how dogs are, that's fine but if there is a way I can get him to go faster, I would love to know.

Also how come he kicks up the grass with his hind legs after he poops? Its so cute and I laugh at him when he does it, but I just wonder why he does it?

  1. Okay the scooting of the rear legs is not your dog trying to hide his scent. When dogs eat their p**p...they are trying to hid their scent...burying it will not hid his trail as other animals can still smell it. They do this to mark their territory...my male and female do that after every pee and p**p...they also do it when on walks and see another dog...Mine have to worst habit...my Shepherd has learned that he can sniff all he wants...he will sniff for 15 minutes and finally squat to poo when I walk outside to haul him in the house. Now he is allowed 5 minutes outside,,,,he does his business,,,if not he comes inside and goes to his crate.

  2. Well I am sorry dogs are different maybe if you hae a fenced yard you can put her out and watch her from inside maybe that will, since she is not around you. That is what I did. Good luck!

  3. Simple, teach him to go on command.  Always take him to one spot outside--stop walking all over the place or he'll become distracted.  Telly him something like "go potty" or "hurry up".  When he goes, immediately reward him with a small but yummy treat (piece of cheese or hotdog--just a tiny bite).  He'll soon get the idea.  Walks and play only come after going to the bathroom.  Many dog trainers teach this to their dogs so they don't accidentally go in the ring--which will disqualify you.

  4. thats just how dogs are. my moms toy poodle does that same thing with the grass, it's hilarious.

  5. You can't make him do his business faster. Just keep walking and he'll keep sniffing. Your the boss not him. They kick up the grass to bury there scent. It's a natural instinct dogs have.

  6. there's not really much of a way to hurry them.  they have to follow natures call.  and he is trying to bury his waste by instinct.  it's to hide his trail.

  7. We travel a lot with our dogs, so when we make a pit stop we don't have time to dawdle.  I have trained both of our dogs to "go" on command.  I started the older one at about 7 yrs old,  and the other as a puppy.  When I would take them out I would continue to repeat the command (choose whatever you want) and when they would finally go I would reward them with praise or a treat.  Pretty soon they were going faster and faster, and now it's a no brainer.

    Good luck
