How can I get my dvd re-writer to recognise my sky channel it can pick up all the freeview channels except sky

I can connect it by scart lead from the sky box to the dvd box then to my tv but it does not show any sky programs

Your Freeview channels will be got at by the machine's digital tuner.

If it has an analogue tuner too then it will be able to find the UHF channel that the Sky box transmits on (normally ch26 or 38) as well as the rest of the analogue stations.

The machine will see the SCART socket by switching the input to something normally called something like AV or AV1.

Be sure to check that you have plugged your Sky box into the DVD machine's SCART input socket. Not all SCARTs are wired as 2-way connectors, especially on cheaper machines. You may have two sockets but only one of them will be an input. Worth a try.
