Question:

How can I get my firebelly toads to eat their crickets when they are hiding during feeding time?

My toads were eating very well, then I recently moved them into a much larger tank with a big mossy land area. They love to burrow in the moss and hide. Often times, when I'm ready to feed them the crickets, I can't find them! I dust the crickets, then place them in the tank, hoping the toads find them. They usually do eventually, but I'm worried the vitamin powder has rubbed off of the crickets by then. Any suggestions? Also, will the toads just eventually hunt them down if they are hungry enough? It's a 55 gallon tank about 2/3 land covered with moss, rocks and plants. Thanks!

  1. Well, I have one fire-bellied toad and she's in a small fish tank. She'll usually hide in water or behind a rock or under the remains of a dead plant. I don't dust my crickets in anything, just plop 'em down in there! The toads are extremely good hunters and will eventually will find them. the bigger the tank, the longer it will take. But if they are hiding, the better chance of a cricket hopping by and being eaten! Don't worry!
