Question:

How can I get my lawn to grow under shade in Arizona?

There is about 5'x5' area of my lawn that is well shaded most of the day, and so it's basically a patch of dirt. We have tried roughing up the soil and replanting Bermuda grass (which is what the rest of the lawn is). That was over six weeks ago, we have seen virtually no progress.

  1. You need to buy grass seed made specifically for shade.

Click on the link below and then click on AZ state and then browse to see what types of grass grow best in your area.

    University Extension for the US

  2. Lots of water, because you need to water the tree and the grass. But Bermuda doesn't like shade anyway.

Try some red fescue, or a shade specific blend.  But you do need to water the grass more and fertilize too prob'ly.
