I have a pair of lovebirds (They were rescued) They are still quite young and very healthy. I want to breed them but dont seem very interested. Is there anything I can buy or feed them to make them want to breed?

  1. When they get older and mature, if they are not attracted to each other, they will not mate.  Birds can be very specific about their mate, as they usually keep the same one for their entire life.

First, make sure you actually have a male and female bird.

If you want to breed them, supply them with a nest box and give them sufficient calcium.  Many breeding birds need different diets than the rest of the year, so see if you can find some at a pet store.  If you see the male or female enter the nest box, there is a chance they will mate soon.  Don't worry if eggs don't appear the first time they mate.  Birds usually mate multiple times.

For further details, talk with your local avian veterinarian.

  2. lovebirds select their mate.so leave them alone and maybe they will feel the need to mate.give them plenty of daylight.the sighn that days r getting longer is the sighn to lay eggs which could mean they need to mate.also do u know the s*x of ur birds.if not u should find out.
