How can I get my male and female canaries to breed? They have been in the same cage for two years.?

I bought them at the same time but they wern't in the same cage then. I have put a nest and nesting material but nothing has happened.

1.  Sometimes, it takes time for them to be ready to mate.

2.  Sometimes, the chemistry just isn't there (like with people).

3.  Sometimes, they need a bigger cage, so that they're not cramped.
